Marie Jones’ 1996 play “Stones in His Pockets” is set in a rural Irish town where a Hollywood film crew is making a movie. The two main characters are Charlie and Jake, who are working as extras on the film.
The play has many other characters, all of them played by the same two actors. When McCarter Theatre presents “Stones in His Pockets,” Jan. 12 through Feb. 11, the two actors taking on all those roles will be Garrett Lombard and Aaron Monaghan.
“There’s only two of us and we play, altogether, about 20, 25 characters,” Lombard says. “So we’ve each got a lot of character switching to do, we play males and females and old men and young boys, Americans and Irish and English.”
