China bans hip hop, actors with tattoos from appearing on TV



The revolution will not be televised.


Chinese government censors are cracking down on television programs that feature “tattoo artists, hip-hop culture, subculture (non-mainstream culture) and funeral culture (decadent culture),” according to news portal Sina.


Rappers PG One and GAI, who were both featured on the massively popular show “Rap of China,” have been sanctioned for content that runs counter to Communist Party values.

PG One was recently forced to make a public apology for lewd lyrics in his song “Christmas Eve,” while GAI was dropped from the television program “The Singer” with no reason given, Reuters reports.
